Summary
Join us for an in-depth virtual presentation designed specifically for
dental hygienists! Understanding the differences between natural teeth and
implants is essential for accurately assessing, diagnosing, and preventing
peri-implant diseases and conditions. This session examines the
inflammatory process and the impact of biofilm on peri-implant disease.
Learn to recognize clinical, radiographic, and histological features that
distinguish peri-implant health, mucositis, and peri-implantitis. Using
clinical scenarios and guidelines from the American Academy of
Periodontology, apply the disease classification system for peri-implant
diseases and conditions, and utilize evidence-based treatment strategies
to ensure optimal patient outcomes and implant longevity.
To enhance your understanding of the AAP Periodontal Disease
Classification System, consider accessing CDHA’s

Learning Outcomes
After the presentation, participants will be able to:
-
Explain the rationale for studying the diagnosis of peri-implant
diseases and conditions
-
Compare and contrast the supporting tissues of a tooth and a dental
implant
-
Identify the risk factors and indicators of peri-implant diseases and
discuss the inflammatory process in relation to biofilm effects and
the host response
-
Relate the clinical, radiographic, and histological features to the
diagnosis of peri-implant health, peri-implant mucositis, and
peri-implantitis
-
Apply the classification of peri-implant diseases and use an
evidence-based treatment plan in clinical scenarios
